Ok this is gonna sound weird LOl

For years (since childhood) I have had spots in front of my eyes, not all the time, sometimes for ages I'll get nothing then it'll happen every day for weeks. They are like little mirror flashes rushing past my face. Just like satching a space ship going into hyperdrive on the tv.

Does anyone know what causes that, it doesn't hurt or anything else it is just distracting.

Now for the big question, a couple of days ago I noticed that I have a pinky grey coloured spot about as big as the first joint on one of my fingers, in front of my right eye. it is there all the time unless I close my right eye then it is fine. I have not looked at any light source, intense or otherwise recently.

I have not had my eyes photographed for 2.5 years, I had it done 6 mnths before I left NZ and forgot that they wouldn't automatically sent me an appointment here so after xmas I will be having that done. I just hope my eyes are not starting to get damaged from the diabetes, bc dialysis I can handle, losing my sight I cannot.

I'm no expert, but I have the same light flashes you described. I was told they are called "floaters" and are basically when some little particles get into the fluid behind the eye. This ultimately causes a shadow, which are the flashes you see. I was told there isn't a thing that can be done for them and that they are nothing to be concerned about.

As for the bigger spot, I'd definitely have that checked!

I have that Maree! I was told that when you see those spots that it was the start of a migraine! I heard that from a specialist. I hope that is not the case for you!

Thanks Dawn I had heard about 'floaters' but for some reason had always pictured them as black spots LOL, I guess that explains why you have them for a while and then they go away for weeks :D

I got horrible migraines in my 20's Tara but I very rarely get them now thank heavens. And you are right I always used to get blurry vision before hand. As this has been going on for 48 hrs I don't think it is a migraine forerunner

I would definately have your eyes checked girl...there are numerous things that can cause both symptoms

Des has decided that I have had Blood Sugar levels high enough to cause my eyeballs to bleed behind the pupil LOL, so to keep him happy I'm going off to the doctors at 6.15, Of course that is not for 4 hours and you will all be fast asleep when I go, but I will let you know what the Doc says anyway, probably "go home' I have actual sick people to take care of here ;)"

Oh and I am glad to hear it's not migraines...I suffered from them most of my life before I had surgery to allow more flow to my brain. I always got spots in my eyes prior which is why I thought possibly you were having a migraine.

Well the Dr said what I thought, he got a good look at my eye, right to the back and there has been no bleeding back there :D he said there is a little yellow dot that may be causing it, but he is not sure. He also wanted to know If I can see properly and as this guy can take my driving liscence away I said yes I can. it is just like having a smudge on my glasses, down right irritating but thats about it.

I am going to ring the specialist tomorrow and see how much and if I can get an appointment. The dr only gave me a referal bc I'm supposed to see a specialist evey 2 - 2.5 yrs and it has been 2.5 since my last one (LOL I was waiting for my appointment card to turn up, D"oh wrong country, it was NZ that did that.

Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. I hope they can clear this up for you and you can get 100% of vision back. It is scary thinking about going blind. I try not to think about it as much as possible.

I hope you can get in to see the doctor and he/she tells you what is wrong. Maybe it is nothing???? We can always hope. It does have to be really annoying though! I am glad you went and saw the one doctor and good for Des for telling you to go! :D

I was going to say that maybe your sugar levels are low, both Brent and I get that if our sugar levels are low. Have you ever checked your sugar during one of those episodes? Just an idea. I get those stupid light thins in front of my eyes either because low sugar, overtired or stressed...geez I need to take better care of myself huh? Hopefully its something you can fix at home.

I never thought about doing a bs reading when I get the mirror fleck things, I'll have to try it. I've been getting them since I was a child but that doesn't mean I couldn't have had low bs's then, Thanks Rebecca

And will you lot quite making Des feel good about bullying me into seeing the Doctor LOL I'm never gonna hear the end of it now :D

Yep, sounds like the aura I get before my migraines!

I agree... watch the blood sugar levels when these things happen... would be interesting to see if low glucose & the spots coincide.

Good luck Maree!

I have had a really bad headache for two days now, but it is not in my eye and the top of my head like they used to be, this is more at the back of my head and down my neck but the nausea remains the same :yuck:

Would I get vision changes 2 days before a migraine???

I used to get them about 30 minutes before and if I noticed soon enough could take my Paramax and avoid the problem altogether
