What does this mean?

Can you put this in English so I can understand??? :lol: I got my medical record today from my pregnancy with Maddie and in it there is this note about me:

The patient is a High Risk Patient. Her issues are as follows. She has an aortic coarctation which is repaired and has a residual gradient.....she needs mitral valve prophlaxis in the peripartum period....

What is the residual gradient and what is the mitral valve prophlaxis in the peripartum period????

And another thing..if my Blood pressure is up and I lay down and it goes down to normal for me should I call the doctor??

Ok... residual gradient, in simplist terms -- even after repair, there is some back flow of blood in the repaired area, such as a valve.

Mitral valve prophilaxis.... usually some sort of treatment regimen to make sure that you don't throw a clot... something that is safe for you during your pregnancy. I know that in our valve patients (non-pregnant), they usually use coumadin, sometimes lovenox. Would have to see what your MD's thinkin to be sure.

From what I read, you DEFINITELY are high risk and should be seen frequently by your OB/GYN... hopefully a specialist in high-risk Moms! :hugs2:

Unless you can spend the whole pregnancy lying down, I wouldn't wait to see a doctor right away. Your pressure should always go down some when you are resting. :hug: I hope you find a good doctor soon.

I am glad I have my medical records because maybe then they will believe me. My BP has been up a bit but my MIL said that unless it went to 150/90 then I was ok. She is the nurse midwife and I know from the last two times that was the point at which they medicated me. It just makes me really angry because just because someone is a doctor does not mean they know everything! I hope that whoever I end up with is not a big moron!

I would just demand to see a civilan doctor. One who is not so busy everyday and who actually remembers you when you come back.
