As far as I'm aware, there are no food allergies in my family but I'm concerned with giving my ds peanut butter for the first time.
What are the symptoms that I would look for if he was having an allergic reaction? What would I do (other than call 911) if he was having a reaction?

Its best to wait until your child is at least a year old before you start trying peanut butter. If your child looks like he is in any distress (having difficulty breathing....excessive drooling, etc...) then you would need to call 911
Peanut butter is one of those foods where if there is an allergy to it, its usually pretty severe...hence the reason you are better to hold off until at least the age of one.

:yup: I would wait until your little one is at least a year old before introducing things like peanut butter.
I've never seen anyone actually having a reaction to peanut butter, but I would assume it would show the same symptoms as any allergic reaction: most immediately changes in or difficulty breathing, increased drooling (foods), hives, etc., etc....
I would consult a physician if you see any reactions, as reactions to peanut butter, as well as shellfish, can be pretty severe. If you have concerns, please consult your pediatrician at your next visit. He or She can give you the best advice, as well as a plan of action if something should occur.
Good luck!
