* You wore that rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest and down the other

* You made baby chocolate cakes in your Holly Hobbie Easy Bake Oven. You washed them down with The Snoopy Snow Cone Machine

*You had that Fisher Price Doctor's kit with a stethoscope that
actually worked. After training with these tools you became an
expert at the game of "operation"

* Legos, Legos, Legos

* You owned a schwin bicycle with a floral banana seat and a basket. In the early 80's you moved onto the ever popular 10 speed. God that seat hurt

* Your roller skates had metal wheels. And strapped on your shoes.

* Admit it......you thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute. You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island

* You had rubber boots for rainy days. Your shoes actually fit inside of the boots (with a little help from your mom and some plastic bags)

* You had sea wees in your bath tub.

* You had either a "bowl cut" or a "pixie" because your mom was sick of braiding your hair.

* Your Holly Hobby sleeping bag was your most prized possession

* You wore a "poncho" with your faux fur "muff" and your clogs

* You begged Santa for the electronic game...Simon

* You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple
shredded outfits

* You spent hours out back on your metal swing set with the trapeze

* You were into ping pong

* You had homemade braided ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color

* You kept losing your mittens so your mom bought you the kind that were attached by a string

* Your Hello Kitty pencil case was cuter than anyones

* You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad. You wore that
Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffled shirt with the
high neck in at least one school picture. You despised Nelle Olson

* You wanted your first kiss to be at the roller rink

* You tried to make sure that no boys would grab the comb out of
your back pocket and skate away at the roller rink

* Your hairstyle was ever described as having "wings"

* You thought Shaun Cassidy actually wrote the songs "Da Do Run Run and "Hey There Lonely Girl"

* Strawberry Shortcake and her friends Blueberry Muffin and
Huckleberry Pie

* You couldn't wait to be old enough to wear high-heeled shoes...
the one's called "Yo Yo's" with the plastic heel with a hole through it!

* You carried a Muppets lunch box to school

* You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazard was your boyfriend

* You memorized every song on the "Annie" movie and know at least one person who immediately went out and got the Annie afro. Every now and the "Its A Hard Knock Life" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it all day

* You had Star Wars action figures, too

* You thought unicorns were real

* It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz would come on TV. Break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

* You wanted to be a part of the Von Trappe family

* Light as a feather, stiff as a board

* You loved The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe so much you got the whole Chronicles of Narnia series for Christmas and read them cover to cover

* You completely wore-out your Grease and Saturday Night Fever
soundtrack albums

* You tried to do lots of arts and crafts things, like yarn & popsicle
stick God's Eyes or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom

* Shrinky-dinks! What was so appealing about these?

* You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your miniature tape recorder up to the speaker

* You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Scholastic book orders your teacher would give you. Remember? The order catalogs looked like miniature newspapers

* You learned everything you needed to know about sex and your
period from Judy Blume books

(And I don't want to read any smart comments by you young'uns who don't remember the 70s or even worse, those of you who weren't even born yet. ) ;)

:hbang: You'd better believe it. The funny thing is-that stuff is all known as "retro" now. I fear the day it's classified as vintage.

Oh well, at least most of it is cool again. I mean, what little girl can go without their Strawberry Shortcake?

I thought I was the sh!t because I got to see him in concert when I was 9 or 10!

Bo Duke all the way baby ..... YEEHAW!

At least I know if I had married him back then, he'd still look good as an "old fart". LOL

:rotfl:

Bonnie, I'll try to explain Light As a Feather.

It's a game we always played at slumber parties. One girl would lay on the floor like she was dead. All the girls would gather around her and put two fingers from each hand under her. The girl by her head would say, "Here lies Jennifer. (then she would describe how the girl died...I know, kinda morbid)." Then she would say, "She's light as a feather, stiff as a board, hard as a rock, (Help me out, 30 somethings...is there any more to that part? I can't remember because I'm so dang old) When she finished talking, everybody would say one, two, three, and lift the girl up as high as they could. I was a skinny kid, so they could always lift me up above their heads. We always cushioned the floor with lots of blankets and pillows in case someone got dropped.

Hey Amy! You also had Rainbow Brite and CareBears (I didn't get the appeal of those then, and I don't understand it now.) I hated babysitting and having to watch Rainbow Brite and Care Bear videos, although they did come in handy when I wanted to talk on the phone.

*You had that Fisher Price Doctor's kit with a stethoscope that
actually worked. After training with these tools you became an
expert at the game of "operation"

I still have pieces of this kit!!!

* You had rubber boots for rainy days. Your shoes actually fit inside of the boots (with a little help from your mom and some plastic bags)

I was thinking about these today and wishing I had some for my kids! We used to use bread bags to stick our feet in so we could get our shoes in and out easily!

* Your Hello Kitty pencil case was cuter than anyones

I so loved Hello Kitty and I STILL do!!!!

* You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad. You wore that
Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffled shirt with the
high neck in at least one school picture. You despised Nelle Olson

Ok I have to tell you...Laura Ingalls Wilder is STILL one of my favorite people. I wrote 2 papers on her in college and used her for a large project! Someday I hope to visit her homes!

* Strawberry Shortcake and her friends Blueberry Muffin and
Huckleberry Pie

I STILL have several of these. I found one..can't remember what her name was...but I do remember they used to smell soooo good!

* It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz would come on TV. Break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

:rotfl: This is soooo true!!!

* Light as a feather, stiff as a board
Played this at many many sleep overs!

* You loved The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe so much you got the whole Chronicles of Narnia series for Christmas and read them cover to cover

I STILL have my set and have reread them as an adult!

* Shrinky-dinks! What was so appealing about these?
My mom still has a chicken we made and she puts it on the Christmas tree every year!!!

A Holly Hobby note...my room was Holly Hobby! I had all sorts of stuff with her on it. I really loved her! I STILL have twin sheets with Holly Hobby on them...they are at my mom's!

KJBBDOLL

* You owned a schwin bicycle with a floral banana seat and a basket. In the early 80's you moved onto the ever popular 10 speed. God that seat hurt
(And this is why I kept stealing my brother's Huffy! )

* Your roller skates had metal wheels. And strapped on your shoes.

* You had either a "bowl cut" or a "pixie" because your mom was sick of braiding your hair.
(This was because she got tired of trying to get the knots out of my hair!)

* You had homemade braided ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color
(And I made every one of them myself!)

* You wanted your first kiss to be at the roller rink
(It was behind the skating rink! :wink2: )

* You thought Shaun Cassidy actually wrote the songs "Da Do Run Run and "Hey There Lonely Girl"
(And I had the 6 foot poster to prove it!)

*It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz would come on TV. Break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
(Still love it!)

* You completely wore-out your Grease and Saturday Night Fever
soundtrack albums
(Still have these, too!)

* You tried to do lots of arts and crafts things, like yarn & popsicle
stick God's Eyes or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom
(Never was any good at these things and I'm still not)

* You learned everything you needed to know about sex and your
period from Judy Blume books
(I just reread "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret." My favorite Judy Blume book!)

My friend and I used to argue over which guy on CHIPS was the bf! We would play on her play telephones and "plan" our "dates" with them.LOLOLOL

Miss Bea Haven
01-09-2004, 07:50 PM
Oh, man, those crocheted vests were UGLY!

My favorite 70s toys were my Weebles treehouse (I can't believe how much a complete set sells for on EBAY) and Barbie townhouse with the elevator.

Did anyone else have a Baby Alive doll?

Shrinky Dinks are plastic things you color, then put them in the oven and they shrink. They've become popular again in the last few years.
